You can’t walk past a good Italian restaurant when you’re more interested in the “eat” than the pray and the love! Here are the best Italian restaurants in Hong Kong for more than just fresh pasta and pizza (although there’s plenty of that too!).

Today, Italian cuisine is a firm favourite across the globe. But that wasn’t always the case. In fact, when Italian food brought by early migrants from Italy first began spreading in the United States, it was seen as overly garlicky, greasy and generally unpalatable – criticisms that the modern foodie would hardly stand for. As attitudes shifted, palates expanded, and the dimensions of international movement and exchange grew, Italian cuisine won the hearts of diners from diverse walks of life. So too in the 852, which plays host to some of the very best Italian restaurants in the world.

Flavour, passion and gracious hospitality – these three elements should be at the core of any Italian dining experience. So, whether you’re in search of an upscale degustation for a culinary tour through the regions of Italy or an easy-going trattoria where the wine flows freely, here’s your guide to the best Italian restaurants in Hong Kong. Buon appetito!

Hong Kong is as renowned for its dining scene as it is for its constant movement. So whether you’re diving in the minute you touch down or indulging in one last hurrah, there’s an option near your gateway that will hit the spot.

No matter how much planning we may do, eventually we all find ourselves arriving at a destination too early to check in at our accommodation, or with time to burn before a scheduled departure. That’s where a good café, diner or restaurant comes in handy, and fortunately there’s something for every occasion around the corner, down the hall or across the street from the plane, train or ship of your choice. We’ve rounded up eight spots accredited by the Quality Tourism Services (QTS) Scheme for beginning a culinary adventure or getting one last taste for the road.

Little welcomes visitors to Hong Kong – or bids them farewell – quite like a relaxing sea view, which is what makes NUVA the perfect bookend experience. Located at AsiaWorld-Expo a few minutes from the airport, NUVA is fine Chinese dining at its best, tucked in a quiet corner away from the city at its most frenetic. The menu’s highlights include next level dim sum, like the 12-fold Steamed Crystal Shrimp Dumpling adorned with gold foil, and the perfectly crisped Baked Stuffed Crab Shell, bursting with crab from atop a luxurious silver crab-shaped platter. Complete the feast with NUVA’s lusciously textured Baked Chestnut Pudding. As a bonus, take in the curated art work that lines NUVA’s walls.

We’ve done the legwork — here’s our ultimate guide to sushi in Hong Kong (we’ve even shamelessly chowed down a couple, in the name of research of course!).

Helmed by Chef Grégoire Michaud, this bakery is far from run-of-the-mill, with all of its baked goods made fresh onsite every day. Whilst its Sourdough loaves are some of the best in the city, we love trying out its creative twists on the classics, including the Sourdough Egg Tarts and Almond Danish. Just be sure to get there early to beat the inevitable queues – yes, even for takeaway!

NOC Coffee Co.

Be it the almond croissant or all day breakfast with all the classics, NOC Coffee Co. is a firm favourite. While we do find paying $138 for a smoked salmon toast on the pricier side, this once-in-a-while breakfast treat never skimps on quality. The minimalist ambiance, pet-friendly outdoor seating and quality coffee all adds to the experience.

We’ve raved about the Avocado On Toast here on many occasions, but you know it’s good if we keep going back! The coffee is also good at Cupping Room – which is the obvious draw so early in the morning, but its selection of egg dishes doesn’t go amiss either.

The dimly lit interiors are fairly cosy, but we love sitting outside and people-watching.
